Man Accused Of Biting, Killing Infant Son Indicted For 1st-Degree Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The northern Minnesota man accused of biting and killing his infant son and blaming it on the neighbor's dog is facing additional murder charges.

The Itasca County Attorney's Office said Tuesday that a grand jury indicted 38-year-old Emery James Jenkins, of Deer River, on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder in the death of his 3-month-old son last October.

At the hearing, Jenkins entered a not guilty plea. His next court appearance is slated for April 21.

Previously, Jenkins had faced a single count of second-degree murder.

According to a criminal complaint, Jenkins' son died on Oct. 18 after two days in the hospital. The boy had biting injuries on his chest, hands, fingers, feet and toes.

Jenkins allegedly told police that he dropped the baby on his head and the neighbor's dog attacked him.

The boy's mother later told police that she and Jenkins made up the story before calling 911.
