Man, 33, Arrested In Cottage Grove Standoff, ID'd
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after an overnight standoff with police in Cottage Grove.
According to Cottage Grove Police, officers were first called around 6:20 p.m. for a domestic situation on the 8100 block of Harkness Road.
A man called 911 to say his step-son had a rifle and had threatened him with it. Police said the step-father was able to get out of the home safely.
The Washington County SWAT team was activated and arrived on the scene. The suspect refused to cooperate and communicate with police while being hostile and aggressive toward officers, authorities said.
Authorities say the suspect was seen pointing a shotgun at officer and taunted officers to enter the home and get him, many times making reference to officers having to shoot him.
At one point, the suspect shot the communication device sent in to attempt to communicate with him and resolve the situation.
After deploying gas failed to get the suspect to cooperate, SWAT made entry at 5:45 a.m. after determining the suspect was laying on a couch. Less lethal tactics were used when confronted and the man was taken into custody without further injuries.
The suspect, identified as Maxwell Mark Quist, was taken to Regions Hospital for an evaluation. He will then be taken to the Washington County Jail pending formal charges.
Residents in the area have been given the all clear to leave their homes.
Detectives are on scene conducting further investigations.
