M.E. Rules Death Of Aitkin Teen, Shot By Dad, A Homicide
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled the May shooting death of an Aitkin teen as a homicide -- and police say the boy's father is the one who pulled the trigger.
The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office says Dawson Vanportfliet suffered a neck and head wound when his father shot him with a .40 caliber Sig Sauer pistol on May 31.
Vanportfliet died four days later at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Vanportfliet's death was ruled a homicide, but investigators believe the shooting was accidental.
