Lynx Finish First Week Of Training Camp

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Now a week into training camp, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve is ramping up the intensity.

"We had a day off yesterday, and so we said kind of the beginning of training camp stuff was over, coddling and cradling and making sure they understand things. And so today was what we call our turn up day. And so we turnt it up," said Reeve.

"She'll let you make one mistake, but two, three mistakes is out of the question," said Lynx center Sylvia Fowles.

After a week of training camp, you start to get an impression of the kind of team you have.

"Really great group. Have really enjoyed their eagerness to please, each other. Not the coaching staff, but each other. It's a new group that we're explaining kind of the Lynx way of doing things," Reeve said.

That includes not just the rookies, but also key veterans Renee Montgomery and Sylvia Fowles, who joined the Lynx last year during the season -- and thus, never got to go through training camp, which is a bigger deal than you might think

"They've been through other training camps, but their first one with us. And so I think it's good for them to see kind of the building blocks that they missed last year. So when we got them midseason last year, it was like, hurry up, do this, we can't tell you why, just do it. Now we can say, why. This is what we're building," said Reeve.

"Being in the right position at the right time, how to pass Maya the ball, how Whay want the ball, how I want the ball," said Fowles.

"Whether we're constructing our defense or constructing our offense, whatever it is, they get to learn the nuances of that," Reeve said.
