Lynx Focused On Winning Title, Not Revenge On Fever

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve and Timberwolves' interim head coach Sam Mitchell chatted as their practices overlapped Thursday. It was a good problem to have because it means the Lynx are in the finals.

"No matter what, it's just one more opponent we're getting ready for. This is it, and this is where we were trying to get to and we're here," Reeve said.

Maybe what they have learned more than anything is how precious it is to make it to the WNBA Finals. And when you get here, you never know if it could be your last shot.

That is why they brought in center Sylvia Fowles, because they do not know how much longer the foundation will be together. She has learned the Lynx way.

"[I've learned] that we're very gritty, that nothing has been given to us, we are not looking for handouts and we just want to win," Fowles said.

Then there is the fact the Indiana Fever beat them in this same round in 2012, with many of the same players.

"Coming into the finals that year, feeling like we weren't as mentally tough as we needed to be. It was a great lesson for us," forward Maya Moore said. "So it's just exciting to get another opportunity to get back here."

But most important is that they are back, where they believe they are supposed to be, and playing for what they feel they deserve -- and that is what this week is about.

"We've been here before, but this year has just been great. We've really come together in these playoffs, and we just got to work hard every day in practice," guard Lindsay Whalen said.

The Lynx face the Fever Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Target Center.
