LRT Connecting Downtowns Set To Run 24/7
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The forthcoming commuter line connecting the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul via light rail train is likely scheduled to run 24 hours a day, every day.
According to reports, Metro Transit plans to keep the Green Line running during the wee hours of the night, which the extant Blue Line connecting downtown Minneapolis to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Mall of America does not currently do.
The Green Line was originally set to run only from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, with a four-hour gap on the overnights.
But some Minneapolis City Council members pointed out those hours would leave late night workers and club-goers stranded.
So now, the plan would have trains will run every 10 to 15 minutes during most of the day. Service would be scaled back to roughly once an hour between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The Green Line is scheduled to officially roll out June 14.
