Lakeville Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of His 2 Young Sons

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A father accused of kidnapping his two young sons is now charged with attempted murder.
Jay Ernst, 27, was arrested yesterday morning, hours after an amber alert was issued for his sons, ages 2 and 4.
Police say a family member found Ernst and his two boys sitting inside a running vehicle in a closed garage. A hose was connected to the exhaust pipe and routed into the car.
Ernst took off with the boys, and police later stopped him in Burnsville. They were not hurt.
According to the criminal complaint, Ernst told police he was not trying to hurt himself or his kids, saying the whole scenario was his way of crying out for help to address his addiction issues.
