Klobuchar Uses Minn.'s 'Safe Harbor' Laws To Fight Sex Trafficking Abroad
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar is using Minnesota's sex trafficking laws as a way to improve safety across the country and the world.
The state's "Safe Harbor" laws ensure children who are sold for sex are treated as victims, not prosecuted as criminals.
Klobuchar has authored similar legislation that will give prosecutors resources to go after the sex trafficking of minors in the U.S.
"We know that it's the front line that matters. The police, the prosecutors, the judges that are making the day-to-day judgment calls and decisions on the cases and doing the hard work of pursuing these cases," Klobuchar said.
Klobuchar is also working towards stopping international sex trafficking, including the recent abduction of Nigerian school girls.
