Klobuchar: I'm Not Interested In Scalia's Seat
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- President Barack Obama says he will nominate someone to succeed Justice Antonin Scalia, who died unexpectedly on Saturday.
The president is asking senators to "do their job" and keep an open mind.
But Senate Republicans vow to reject whomever the president recommends.
One of the names being thrown around as a possible nominee is Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
But she told WCCO Wednesday that she does not want to be considered for the post, and that President Obama should appoint a new justice soon.
"If he nominates someone in the next month, we should -- if we even go to the longest amount of time it's taken for any of the sitting justices -- it should be done by the Fourth of July," Klobuchar said. "And for people that believe in the Constitution, the Fourth of July is a good day."
Klobuchar sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which would hold hearings on any new nominee.
