Klobuchar Meets With First Responders For 911 Reform

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- In an emergency, getting through to 911 is critically important. That's why law enforcement and emergency response teams met with Sen. Amy Klobuchar Tuesday.

The senator is part of an effort to make dialing 911 simpler and easier. It's in response to a woman killed by her estranged husband when her daughter couldn't call for help from a hotel room. The girl didn't know she had to dial 9 first for an outside line.

"One of the first numbers that kids learn is 911," Klobuchar said at the meeting. "Reaching people who can help during an emergency should always be that simple."

Tuesday's meeting took place at the St. Paul hotel where a direct-dial 911 system is already in place.
