Kitten Rescued From Fargo Dumpster, Frozen In Paint And Concrete
FARGO, N.D. (WCCO) -- Construction workers in Fargo made a heartbreaking discovery after hearing a desperate "meow" coming from inside a dumpster.
A kitten had been left there for days, and what's worse, it was frozen in concrete and paint.
The kitten, now named Kelly, is only a few weeks old, but has already been through more than most cats.
"I don't know how the cat would climb up a six-foot dumpster and get in," the kitten's new owner Kelly said.
Kelly, a St. Cloud man, is the reason this kitten got her name. The construction worker was at a site in north Fargo when he and his coworkers discovered little Kelly inside the dumpster.
"It can't move or anything, so I asked my boss if I could find a home for it, and I said sure," he said. "So I spent a couple hours running around."
Gail Adams-Ventzke is the executive director of Cat's Cradle, a Fargo animal rescue.
"There's no way she could have gotten in there herself," Adams-Ventzke said. "There was nothing for her to crawl up on."
After workers found the kitten, Cat's Cradle stepped in, saying they've never seen anything like this.
"Have a heart, people," Adams-Ventzke said. "It's a living, breathing thing. How do you do something like that to something like this?"
The vet managed to get most of the concrete off, but Kelly the kitten is still trying to shake and lick the rest off. She also has a case of ear mites that's untreatable because she's too young.
"You can feel the bones in her spine," Adams-Ventzke said. "She's underweight."
While many are thanking Kelly for what he did, he's thankful for the work the vets are doing.
"She's in good hands," he said.
