Kenyans Elisha Barno And Jane Kibii Win Grandma's Marathon
DULUTH, Minn. (AP/WCCO) — Kenyans Elisha Barno and Jane Kibii are the 2015 champions of Grandma's Marathon in Duluth.
Barno edged course record holder Dominic Ondoro of Kenya for the top spot in the men's race Saturday. Barno passed Ondoro around the 23-mile mark and finished with an unofficial time of 2:10:36.
For the second straight year, women's course record holder Sarah Kiptoo of Kenya finished third. For much of the race, it looked like she'd win her second title in three years as her lead was roughly 2½ minutes at one point. But, with about a mile to go, Kibii passed Kiptoo and held on to win her first Grandma's title in an unofficial 2:32:06.
Lindsey Scherf of High Falls, New York also passed Kiptoo and finished second.
Several WCCO personalities and staff were also among the 18,000 runners in Duluth.
