After nearly 4 months away, KAT returns to court Wednesday for Wolves
MINNEAPOLIS -- Karl-Anthony Towns will make his long-awaited return to the Timberwolves Wednesday night.
KAT plans to play against the Atlanta Hawks. Towns has missed 52 games with a calf strain he suffered on Nov. 28 against the Washington Wizards.
On Wednesday, the Timberwolves listed Towns as questionable for the Hawks game, but also freed up a roster spot by sending Luka Garza to the G League.
"Expectations are that he just kind of settles into the flow of the game, not try to do too much at this point in time," Minnesota coach Chris Finch said before the Timberwolves hosted the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. "Most importantly, knock the rust off. Certainly want him to be himself but not at the expense of what we're trying to do out there. And I think that's pretty easy ask for him."
Finch said Towns will have limitations but didn't offer specifics. Finch didn't have an update on Anthony Edwards, who was listed as questionable after missing two games with a right ankle sprain.
Backup point guard Jordan McLaughlin won't play due to illness.
The experiment of mixing Towns and newcomer Rudy Gobert had some rough patches early in the season. Towns also returns to a team that has traded his good friend D'Angelo Russell and added Mike Conley at the trade deadline.
The Wolves are ninth in the Western Conference as of Wednesday morning, putting them in position for a spot in the playoff tournament with nine games remaining.
