Jared Allen's Foundation Presents Home To Veteran
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former Vikings player helped make a dream come true for a veteran injured while fighting overseas.
Sgt. Colin Faust got the keys to his very own home in Minnetrista Saturday afternoon.
Former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen and his foundation, "Homes for Wounded Warriors," built the house for free.
They got a lot of help from area builders, craftsmen and dozens of volunteers.
Faust was injured after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan.
He's been living in a small house in Mankato that's hard to navigate with his wheelchair.
"It just means everything to have something that I can have in my future, where I can be comfortable and live with my wheelchair," Faust said.
Allen says Americans can't forget about the soldiers who have returned home.
"My American dream starts with a functional home for me and my family. I don't think anybody deserves it more than those who defend our country," Allen said.
This is the first home built from the ground up by Allen's foundation.
The new home includes an elevator, widened doors and hallways, a customized kitchen and bathrooms.
