Isaac Kolstad Recovers From Blood Clot, Prepares For Another Brain Surgery
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Former Minnesota State University – Mankato football player, Isaac Kolstad, has shown signs of improvement after he was treated for a blood clot last week.
Kolstad has been in a coma since he sustained head injury during an assault in downtown Mankato, Minn. roughly a month ago.
Kolstad was treated for a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot that can occur when someone is bedridden and blood does not flow properly.
According to his CaringBridge page, doctors hope to finish treatment for the DVT this week and begin prepping him for surgery to replace part of his skull.
Doctors removed the bone flap from his skull to allow for swelling of the brain during the first brain surgery. The bone flap was placed in Kolstad's abdomen where it remained sterile.
The latest update on his CaringBridge page says doctors hope replacing the bone flap will give Kolstad all the necessary tools to begin rehab.
This family is excited for this movement forward and hopes the latest surgery will prepare Kolstad for rehab.
