Hennepin County Using iPads For Election Day Check-Ins
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A number of Hennepin County cities will be checking voters in using iPads this Election Day.
Rather than having people stand in line at tables with paper binders dividing people into groups listed alphabetically, this strategy would allow election judges to check in and register voters as they come.
Officials reported that voters will sign their names on a small slip of paper, instead of in binders.
The one city the e-poll books will not utilized in? Minneapolis. The changeover to the new electronic check-in process is slated for 2017.
The e-poll books have been pilot tested in a number of previous elections in Hennepin County, as well as other counties in Minnesota. They were used during the Aug. 9 primary election.
Among the benefits espoused over the iPad system are an increase in voter privacy, increased efficiency, and more accurate registrations.
