Death Investigation Underway Following Alejandra Cervantes' Early Morning Death In Maplewood, Suspect In Custody

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in the east metro are investigating after 28-year-old Alejandra Cervantes was fatally struck by a car early Monday morning.

Police arrested a 21 years-old St. Paul woman, booking her at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of 2nd degree murder. WCCO does not name suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.

The Maplewood Police Department says officers were called around 12:45 a.m. to the intersection of Londin Lane and Crestview Drive, where they found a woman in the road with serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of emergency crews, Cervantes died at the scene. Investigators believe she was hit by a car.

Jennifer Hallanitsch lives right on the road where Cervantes was hit. She told WCCO's Kate Raddatz she saw the police response but didn't see what happened.

"I went to bed and there were a ton of lights out my window. You could see all the cop cars," she said. "It's so quiet here that it was shocking."

Investigators say a dispute appears to have taken place before the woman was struck.

The incident remains under investigation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the case.
