State Patrol: 2 killed after semi-truck loses tires, striking SUV on I-94
ST. MICHAEL, Minn. -- A section of Interstate 94 in the northwest metro shut down Saturday evening due to a fatal crash.
The crash occurred around 4:49 p.m. on I-94 in St. Michael near Minnesota State Highway 241. The Minnesota State Patrol says a westbound Freightliner Semi lost two tires and at least one of them hit an eastbound Nissan Rogue.
There were five occupants in the SUV at the time of the crash. The driver, identified as 44-year-old Viengkhone Nguyen of Brooklyn Park, and a passenger, 43-year-old Lea Khamphachanh of St. Cloud, were killed in the crash.

The other three SUV passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated at North Memorial.
The semi driver, a 37-year-old man from Savage, was not injured.

Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor, the state patrol said.
The eastbound section of the road was shut down for approximately six hours.
