Police Chase In Golden Valley Ends In Wreck As Suspect Flees On Foot

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man running away from troopers ended up hiding in a MnDOT truck parked at the State Patrol headquarters.

The pursuit of van began on I-394 when the driver wouldn't pull over for state troopers.

"A chase is probably the most dangerous unpredictable thing any of our troopers will become involved in and it really comes down to the trooper constantly evaluating what they're chasing, why they're chasing it," Capt. Mike Hanson said.

At some point, the chase ended but the driver kept going. Dispatchers monitored traffic cameras to follow the Dodge Caravan. The van with Emery Jerome Song at the wheel eventually went north on Highway 100, exiting at Duluth Street in Golden Valley, hitting and flipping a SUV.

"He was driving in a very dangerous and reckless careless manner and there's just no two ways about that even though he was no longer being actively pursued. He continued to drive that way until he hurt two innocent people," Hanson said.

Here's where things get even more interesting. Song tries to stop other cars, and tries to open doors to get in. No one lets him.

He eventually runs to a parking lot which just happens to be State Patrol West Metro headquarters.
The same agency on his trail.

"He decided to try and hide in one of the MnDOT pickup trucks," Hanson said.

That's where troopers caught up with Song. According to Hanson, he did not cooperate. They used a stun gun to take Song into custody

Song has a long history of traffic convictions, including fleeing police.

Song's sister told WCCO-TV that her brother is remorseful for his actions, and accepts full responsibility.

Police ask other drivers to call 911 if they see someone driving erratically. And to do their best to get out of the way if they see a pursuit in progress.
