Complaint: Man Was 5 Times The Legal Limit In IGH Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Inver Grove Heights man faces several charges after injuring a woman while driving with a blood-alcohol level that was five times the legal limit.
The Dakota County Attorney's office says Brian Anthony Hunsanger, 55, was charged Friday with four counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in bodily harm, and two counts of second-degree driving while impaired.
The criminal complaint says Inver Grove Heights police reported to the site of a crash on Aug. 19 at Blaine Avenue and 70th Street. A woman was injured at the scene, and told officers she was turning northbound on Blaine Avenue when a truck ran a red light and crashed into her car.
Witnesses say the driver of the truck, later identified as Hunsanger, initially got out of his truck after the crash, but then got back in and fled the scene.
Some of the witnesses followed Hunsanger and boxed his truck in with their vehicles until other officers arrived.
Police arrested Hunsanger after he failed the field sobriety test and did not take a breath test. They said he smelled of alcohol, had watery eyes and his speech was slurred.
A blood test was taken after a warrant was secured, and later revealed that Hunsanger's blood-alcohol level was .397. The complaint says he had a previous drunk driving conviction in 2009.
The victim suffered oral injuries in the crash.
Hunsanger will make his first court appearance on Nov. 7. He faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
