Hundreds March In Mpls. For Racial Justice, Equality
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Students with the Million Artist Movement were among the hundreds of people with marched in Minneapolis Saturday in conjunction with the "Day of Resistance" movement around the country.
Participants marched from the Federal Reserve Bank to the Government Plaza in downtown Minneapolis, where they held a demonstration.
The march was held to call attention to the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police.
They say they want to raise their voices for change around racial justice and equality.
Thousands of protesters marched in New York and Washington D.C. Saturday, where the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, who died in incidents with police, joined the demonstrators.
They made their way to the U.S. Capitol, where speakers outlined legislative changes they want Congress to pursue in relation to police killings.
Many in the crowd chanted, "I can't breathe," and displayed signs with the words "Black Lives Matter."
