State Patrol: Dump Truck Rear-Ends Vehicles On Hwy 55, Results In 6-Vehicle Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating after a six-vehicle crash closed Highway 55 in both directions Thursday.

According to the state patrol, the incident occurred at 7:31 a.m. on Highway 55 at Doyle Path in Rosemount. There, a Freightliner semi was traveling east on Highway 55 when it attempted to turn left on Doyle Path. Three passenger vehicles then came to a stop behind the semi.

That's when a Peterbilt dump truck, which was also traveling eastbound on Highway 55, rear ended the passenger vehicles. The dump truck then fishtailed, entered the west traffic lane and caused a Ram truck traveling west to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. The dump truck then sideswiped the Freightliner semi and came to rest in the southern ditch.

One of the drivers of the passenger vehicles was seriously injured, a 31-year-old St. Paul woman, but is listed in fair condition at Regions Hospital.

The incident caused both directions of the highway to be closed.
