1 killed, 1 hurt in alcohol-related motorcycle crash in Minnetonka, state patrol says
MINNETONKA, Minn. — Alcohol played a factor in a deadly motorcycle crash on Saturday night in the Twin Cities, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
It happened at about 7:45 p.m. on Highway 12 near Carlson Parkway in Minnetonka.
The state patrol says a Harley-Davidson with two people aboard hit a curb, throwing both riders.
The driver, 58-year-old Garret Mathew Dawson, of Becker, was killed. His passenger, 58-year-old Melissa Ann Varner, of Buffalo, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The state patrol is still investigating but says both rides had been drinking before the crash, and neither was wearing a helmet.
The crash shut down the Interstate 494/Interstate 394 interchange for hours, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
