Fatal crash in Big Lake closes westbound Highway 10 for several hours

40-year-old woman from Big Lake dies in Highway 10 crash

BIG LAKE, Minn. — A fatal crash in the northwest metro closed a portion of Highway 10 for several hours Wednesday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened around 7:40 a.m. near Big Lake. A Ford Fusion traveling westbound on the highway collided with a Nissan Altima that was trying to cross the intersection at 172nd Street Northwest.

The 40-year-old Anoka woman who was driving the Nissan died, the state patrol said. She was identified as Danielle Hayes.

The driver of the Ford, a 25-year-old man from Elk River, suffered non-life threatening injuries. 

Westbound Highway 10 was closed until around 11 a.m.
