Hennepin Co. Deputy, Minnetrista Man Injured in Rear-End Crash On I-94

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Hennepin County Deputy and a Minnetrista man are injured after an rear-ending on Interstate 94 Thursday evening.

According to Minnesota State Patrol, around 7 p.m. an off-duty Hennepin County Deputy was driving south on I-94 when traffic slowed, causing him to stop.

As the deputy slowed, 60-year-old Mark E. Whitsett crashed into him from behind.

Whitsett was taken to HCMC with serious injuries. The deputy, 47-year-old Timothy Chmielewski, was also hurt but is expected to be okay.

State Troopers blocked the right lanes of the roadway for nearly five hours to investigate this crash.

They finally cleared the scene around 11:45 p.m.
