HCMC Doctors Take 'Ice Bucket Challenge'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's a fundraiser that's gone viral!

The doctors at Hennepin County Medical Center got an icy-cold bath Saturday, and all for a cause close to their hearts.

Doctors from the hospital's ALS Center of Excellence accepted the "Ice Bucket Challenge."

The social media campaign is helping raise awareness and money for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Thirty-thousand people in the United States have the disease, and there is no known cure.

Over the past two weeks, the ALS Association has raised $4 million with the Ice Bucket Challenge -- almost four times as much as it did the same time last year.

Obviously, this campaign is successful. But do other social media fundraisers really work?

Check out Heather Brown's Good Question from earlier this week, where she takes the challenge herself!
