Family Of Woman Who Went Missing In 1993 Hold 'Spiritual Release' Ceremony
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's one of St. Paul's oldest missing person cases. And, Saturday, after 24 years, the family of Hang Lee held a memorial service to honor her memory. They still don't know what happened to her.
Hang Lee was 17 when she went missing. She would be in her 40s now. St. Paul police say Lee was last seen leaving her home in January 1993.
In all of that time her family never held a gathering like the one Saturday because they don't know where she is.
Hang Lee's family held what they called a "spiritual release" ceremony to come to terms with their worst fears. Although her family is accepting the fact that Lee may have died, they still want to know what happened.
"Our family are waiting desperately to see her day and night, months and years," brother Koua Lee said.
St. Paul police have been working to solve her case. Their person of interest is 54-year-old Mark Wallace.
Hang Lee's family believes she was headed to a job interview with Wallace when she went missing.
Wallace has been in Washington County jail since August for allegedly kidnapping and stalking a woman.
"There is a person of interest. There always has been a person of interest," investigator Benny Williams said. "The more information that comes through, the more we'll be able to clarify that, and at this point right now we are still following leads."
The Pioneer Press reports St. Paul investigators say Wallace has never talked to them about Hang Lee.
Wallace pleaded not guilty to the Washington County charges and investigators are hoping that current case could lead to a break in the Hang Lee case.
Anyone with information about the disappearance of Hang Lee is asked to call St. Paul police.
