Charges: Hastings Man Puts Gun To Teen's Head Over $60
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 23-year-old Hastings man is accused of pulling a gun on a teenage friend earlier this month after the two got into an argument about who should keep $60 found in a driveway.
Marcus Adrian Coleman is charged with one felony count of second-degree assault in connection to the June 11 incident, documents filed in Dakota County say.
According to a criminal complaint, Coleman was with a group of people that night, flying his drone at the home of a 16-year-old friend in Ravenna Township. When the group found $60 in the driveway, Coleman picked it up and said he was going to keep it, the teenager told police.
When the teenager suggested that they split the cash, since it was found in his driveway, an argument flared up.
The 16-year-old told police that in response Coleman walked up to his four-wheeler and grabbed a gun, the criminal complaint states. Coleman then cocked the gun, held it to the teen's head and told him to "get on the ground."
After this, the teen told Coleman to leave. Another person who witnessed the incident corroborated the teen's story to police, the criminal complaint states.
When officers caught up with Coleman on his four-wheeler that night, he told officers that he pulled the gun on his friend because the teen had threatened to "bust his f---ing head open."
He said he pointed the gun at the teen's chest, not his head, and told him to get on the ground.
In Coleman's backpack, police found a Glock handgun, the complaint states. It was loaded, with a round in the chamber.
If convicted of the assault charge, Coleman faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison and/or a fine of $14,000.
