Guest Pass: Skateville In Burnsville

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - This week's Guest Pass takes Matt Brickman to the south metro to check out Skateville in Burnsville. The roller rink has been in in Burnsville since 1972.

Every Wednesday they host an active adult skate group, where skaters of all ages hit the rotunda.

"It's a gathering," says Skateville Manager Florence Adams. "We celebrate birthdays. We had two 80-year-old birthdays just recently. They make young people jealous."

Octogenarians gliding around effortlessly while you struggle to keep your feet will do that. But, at least at Skateville, skating is still popular with all ages.

"Our specialty is birthday parties, and we have had birthday parties for youngsters whose parents used to skate here," Adams said. "They had their birthday parties here, so we cater to everybody."

That includes celebrities. Just a couple of months ago, while in town for a concert at Target Center, Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry rented out the rink for Musgraves' 26th birthday party.

" [Katy Perry was] skating around, basically right under the mirror ball, with an inflatable alien, singing 'I will always love you,'" said owner Jason McKenzie.

The singer posted a video of that to her Instagram page.

While there's no guarantee you'll spot Perry swaying with her green dance partner on your visit, Skateville is worth checking out. You can find information about their hours here.
