Guest Pass: Shoreview Community Center

SHOREVIEW (WCCO) -- In the depths of a Minnesota winter, it's hard to remember what being warm feels like. But inside the walls of the Shoreview Community Center, you heat up in a hurry.

"We always keep the temperature about 84 degrees" said Diana Buck, Aquatics Manager at the Shoreview Community Center. "Our water temperature is about 83 degrees, too."

On the day we visited the Tropics Indoor Waterpark that was 100 degrees warmer than it felt in the parking lot.

"It is busy year round, but right now in the winter season, of course, we're a little bit more busy than normal," Buck said.

People are here for more than just a chance to thaw out.

"We have a zero depth area for the little kids to use," Buck said. "Then we have the cargo net and lily pad for the kids to go across and try to do that."

There's room for lessons, lap swimming and water aerobics. But in Matt's opinion, the highlight of the waterpark is obvious. It's the Shark Attack Waterslide.

"Up at the top of the slide there's a touch screen, you can listen to what song you want to listen to when you go down the slide," Buck said.

"Then there are lights that are actually in the slide that have been programmed to go with the music. So it's your own dance party in the slide."

The Community also hosts Dive-In Movies at the pool. For more information about that, hours and rates, you can visit their website.
