Group Of Techie Teens From Twin Cities Heading To Silicon Valley
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of tech-minded teens from the Twin Cities is on the summer trip of a lifetime this week. It's an all-expenses paid, hands-on field trip to Silicon Valley.
They're part of a program called Silicon North Stars, founded by two Google executives originally from Minnesota.
Spokeswoman Anna Peterson is with Minneapolis' Step-Up internship program.
"Taking the youth – they are all rising ninth-graders – and exposing them to a wide variety of tech careers. At this age, hopefully they can learn the different avenues and careers in the industry and we want to spark that interest while they're young so that they can continue to grow and develop throughout high school," Peterson said.
The 16 teens will be visiting Google, Facebook, YouTube, Indiegogo, Lyft, and several tech startups. They'll also pitch their own start-up ideas to Silicon Valley tech leaders at an event in San Francisco.
