Gov. Dayton Prepares For State Of The State Address
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton will deliver his State of the State Address Wednesday.
Lawmakers returned to the State Capitol Tuesday for a ten-week session. In his speech, Dayton will discuss what he hopes the Legislature will achieve during the session.
The Governor usually gives his State of the State address in the Minnesota House chambers.
But, due to a three-year restoration project at the Capitol, Dayton will give his speech at the McNamara Alumni Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
Construction left no room for guests to hear his speech.
Also, there are no working bathrooms at the Capitol. Lawmakers are using portable bathrooms outside.
As far as what's in the speech, it is expected Dayton will talk about his top three priorities for this legislative session.
His first priority is education, with an emphasis on early childhood and pre-kindergarten as well as higher education affordability.
Second is transportation. He has said he wants a real solution that's going to commit the resources necessary to make the kind of difference we need.
Third is improving water quality. This applies not just in what we drink, but also in the lakes and rivers we use for recreation.
The State of the State Address will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
This will be his sixth State of the State Address and the second one of the Governor's second term.
