Gov. Dayton Heads To Brainerd For Fishing Opener

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It'll be a busy weekend on Minnesota lakes as about 500,000 anglers are expected to be on the water for the annual Fishing Opener.

Gov. Mark Dayton will be one of them, as he'll be hitting the Brainerd Lakes Area for the 67th Annual Governor's Fishing Opener. The event will be headquartered at Grand View Lodge. Dayton will head out to Gull Lake at 12:01 a.m. Saturday to kick off the fishing season. He'll be with fishing guide Ray Gildow, former Chief Justice Eric Magnuson and Tom Brown.

Gov. Dayton will also hold a formal send-off on Saturday morning before he heads back out to fish at about 8:20 a.m.

The Governor's Fishing Opener has been a tradition since 1948.
