Gophers Sweep Ohio State To Maintain Big Ten Lead

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota men's hockey team beat Ohio State 4-3 Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep of the Buckeyes and maintain its spot at the top of the Big Ten standings.

Hudson Fasching led the Gophers on the night with two goals and an assist. Minnesota also got goals from Connor Reilly and Leon Bristedt. Vinni Lettieri added two assists for the Gophers, who improved to 11-3 in league play with the sweep.

Friday night, the Gophers came back from an early deficit to force overtime and claim the victory. Saturday, Minnesota took the early 2-0 lead and had a 4-1 lead before the Buckeyes scored twice in the third period to make the game close.

Eric Schierhorn made 20 saves in Saturday's win as the Gophers out-shot Ohio State 32-23 for the game.

With the sweep, Minnesota maintains its lead in the Big Ten with an 11-3 mark in league play. Michigan is second at 9-2-3. The Gophers are off this week before hosting Michigan Feb. 25-26 at Williams Arena.
