Gophers Softball Team Wins NCAA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The University of Minnesota women's softball team had a big weekend, winning the Minneapolis Regional of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Super Regional.

The Gophers beat North Dakota State Saturday 4-1 in 10 innings, then got a come-from-behind 8-6 win over Auburn to win the regional. The Gophers trailed 6-3 against the Tigers before making the comeback for the win, topped off by a three-run home run from Sam Macken that proved to be the game-winner.

Minnesota (44-10) moves on to face No. 1-seeded Oregon (52-7) in Eugene, Ore., next weekend to start the NCAA Super Regional. It's the first time in program history that the Gophers have advanced to a super regional.
