Gophers' Schierhorn Named Big Ten's Third Star
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota goaltender Eric Schierhorn was recognized Tuesday by the Big Ten Conference after the Gophers got a split with Minnesota State University, Mankato, last weekend.
Schierhorn was named the Big Ten's Third Star of the Week. He shut out the Mavericks for more than 116 minutes as the Gophers won in Mankato 4-0 Friday night and lost 3-2 in overtime Saturday at Mariucci Arena.
Schierhorn leads the Big Ten with a .931 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average. He made 31 saves in a shutout victory Friday night and made 28 saves Saturday before the Mavericks rallied for a late victory.
It's his second award this season as he was named the league's First Star of the Week back on Oct. 27.
