Gophers' Schierhorn, Brodzinski Earn Honors After Weekend Sweep

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota men's hockey team had two players earn league honors after a weekend sweep of Northeastern at Mariucci Arena.

Goalie Eric Schierhorn earned two victories, including his first career shutout, and was selected the Big Ten's First Star of the Week. Michael Brodzinski collected four points over the weekend to earn the league's Second Star of the Week.

Schierhorn led all Big Ten goalies over the weekend with a .941 save percentage, a 1.50 goals against average and the two wins. He made 23 saves in Friday's 4-0 win and made 25 saves in Saturday's victory.

Brodzinski had one goal and three assists over the weekend. He had one assist in Friday's win and added a goal and two assists Saturday. Brodzinski is first among Big Ten defensemen with five points on the season.

The Gophers return to action Nov. 6-7 with a two-game non-conference series at Notre Dame.
