Gophers' Nate Mason Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Nate Mason of the University of Minnesota has been named the league's Freshman of the Week for men's basketball.

Mason is just the second Gophers player to get the award since it started in 2010. It's the third straight week the Gophers have earned an award from the Big Ten Conference. Joe Coleman was the other Minnesota player to earn the Freshman of the Week award for the Gophers and did so in 2012.

In Minnesota's lone game last week, Mason matched a career-highs with 15 points and six steals to help lead the Gophers to a 92-57 win over Seattle University at Williams Arena. It was Minnesota's sixth straight win and marked Mason's seventh time scoring in double figures in 11 games this season.

On the season, Mason is averaging 9.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Gophers. He is second in the league in three-point shooting percentage at 45.7 percent.

The Gophers (9-2) host Furman Monday night in non-conference action at Williams Arena.
