Gophers Fall To MSU-Mankato At North Star College Cup

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCCO) -- The University of Minnesota men's hockey team went winless for the weekend after a 3-2 loss to Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Sunday in the North Star College Cup at Xcel Energy Center.

The Gophers faced the Mavericks Sunday after losing to Bemidji State 4-2 on Saturday. Four of the five goals scored Sunday came on the power play.

Justin Kloos and Michael Brodzinski each had two points for the Gophers in the loss. Kloos scored a power-play goal at 14:48 of the first period to tie the game 1-1.

Connor Reilly scored on a 5-on-3 power play at 5:27 of the second period to tie the game 2-2. The Mavericks scored the eventual game-winner at 7:29 of the second period on the power play.

The Gophers (13-12) return to Big Ten play next weekend, hosting Penn State at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers have a share of the league lead with Michigan at 24 points.
