Gophers, Don Lucia Agree To 2-Year Extension

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota announced Thursday it has agreed to a two-year contract extension with men's hockey coach Don Lucia.

Lucia, who has led the Gophers to two national championships, will be under contract at Minnesota through the 2018-19 season. He is currently entering his 18th season as the Gophers men's hockey coach and 30th overall in college hockey.

Lucia had led the Gophers to three straight Big Ten regular season titles and five straight conference championships overall. He has 415 career wins with the Gophers.

Minnesota opens the regular season Friday night on the road as the Gophers face Alaska-Anchorage. The Gophers will host St. Cloud State for their home opener at Mariucci Arena on Oct. 21.
