Gophers' Boyd Named Big Ten's First Star Of The Week
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota senior forward Travis Boyd received honors from the Big Ten and NCAA this week after leading the Gophers to a weekend sweep of Ohio State at Mariucci Arena.
Boyd scored the game-winning goal in a 4-2 win Friday night over the Buckeyes and netted a hat trick in Saturday's 6-2 win. He earned the Big Ten's First Star of the Week award and the NCAA's Third Star of the Week after collecting five points on the weekend.
Boyd now has 25 points on the season, including 13 goals. That mark includes 20 points over his last 14 games after missing all of November with an injury. He has a point in 12 of his last 14 games.
The senior's 13 goals leads the team. He also leads the Big Ten with six game-winning goals.
Minnesota hosts Michigan this weekend at Mariucci Arena.
