Gophers Beat Penn State 5-2 For Sweep
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota men's hockey team completed a sweep of Penn State in Big Ten hockey action Monday night with a 5-2 victory in University Park, Pa.
The Gophers, ranked No. 1 in the country, improved to 5-0-1 in league play. They are the top team in the Big Ten and have a four-point lead on Wisconsin. The Gophers are 15-3-2 overall, which is the program's third-best start through 20 games in program history.
Minnesota led 1-0 after the first period as Travis Boyd scored at the 2:25 mark on the power play. Sam Warning scored in the second and third periods to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead. Nate Condon also scored in the third period, and Justin Kloos scored an empty-net goal late in regulation to seal the victory.
Penn State scored twice in the third period, but never got closer than a two-goal margin. Adam Wilcox earned the win in net by matching a career high with 36 saves.
The Gophers host Ohio State in the Hockey City Classic outside at 8 p.m. at TCF Bank Stadium.
