GOP Ties Toddler's Death To Dayton
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Republicans are using the death of an abused child in their latest attack on Gov. Mark Dayton.
The party's new ad cites a Star Tribune report in suggesting that a new law backed by the Dayton administration made it more difficult to substantiate abuse claims against 4-year-old Eric Dean, who was murdered by his stepmother in 2013. The law was passed after Dean died.
The ad also criticizes bonuses awarded to health exchange officials during the website's troubled rollout.
Dayton campaign spokesman Linden Zakula calls it "despicable" to use Dean's death for political gain.
The ad is part of the GOP's late TV campaign announced Wednesday. The GOP says it's spending more than $100,000 to air the ads against each Democrat through Election Day.
