Good Question: Why Do We Spend Less On Father's Day?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) --Father's Day is this Sunday. But unlike moms, dads shouldn't expect to be showered with gifts.

The National Retail Federation finds Americans are expected to spend $7.4 billion less on dads this Father's Day than they spent on moms for Mother's Day.

According to the federation, 64 percent of people will say "thank you" to dad with simply a greeting card.

So why do dads get a raw deal? Tina Wilcox, owner of Black Retail Agency, says it's easier to buy stuff for mom, and there are more options.

Dad's wish list, however, is smaller but more expensive. And forget about the neckties.

"Technology … any kind of gadget, grilling items," Wilcox said.

She also says moms simply do more work in many families, so they get a bigger "thank you."

"People say that, you know, she's done everything for us and we really want to make this her special day," she said.

So if your Father's Day spending doesn't match up, don't feel bad. There's a good chance dad will understand.
