Stolen car crashes into Federal Reserve in downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — A police chase that began in Golden Valley overnight Wednesday ended with both the suspect vehicle and an officer in a cruiser crashing into the Federal Reserve Bank building in downtown Minneapolis.

According to the Golden Valley Police Department, the chase began when an officer pulled over three juveniles in a car on Highway 169 at Cedar Lake Road.

The juveniles fled the stop and ended up in a dead-end, where the driver turned around and "attempted to ram the patrol car," police said. The chase continued onto Interstate 394 and into Minneapolis before ending in a crash in downtown Minneapolis.

Police said the suspect vehicle hit the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis building and the patrol car struck the barriers outside the building.

The three juveniles tried to run, but were arrested near the scene of the crash, police said. Police also said they recovered two handguns from the scene, and the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen. 

The officer who crashed suffered minor injuries and was evaluated at a hospital. The building was undamaged.
