Furniture Megastore Opens Saturday In Little Canada
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- On Saturday, one of the largest furniture stores in the Midwest will open its doors, right here in the Twin Cities.
The Dock 86 store in Little Canada will soon be joined by HOM Furniture and Gabberts in the space that used to serve as the warehouse for Dock 86. All three stores will be attached, and they will open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
By combining all three shops, the furniture store has become one of the largest in the Midwest, with four total acres of furniture, or about 185,000 square feet.
"It's been an evolution of time," store president Rodney Johansen said.
Johansen says the idea for a "three stores under one roof" concept was kicked around a few years ago, but they wanted to wait until the time was right.
Beginning Saturday, they'll be able to offer everything from beds, to couches, to dining room sets, to area rugs and much more.
"Most furniture stores don't get into the flooring and carpet side. Most furniture stores aren't into the patio part as well," Johansen said.
Johansen says customers will get the no frills feel from Dock 86, the aesthetic displays of HOM, and the fine furniture showrooms of Gabberts. The hope is to have a little something for everyone.
"It probably for sure is the only complex that has this range of merchandise and a design studio and everything nationwide that we are aware of," he said.
