Funeral Held For Children Who Died In Valentine's Day Fire
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The Minneapolis community came together Saturday to remember the five children who died when their house caught fire on Valentine's Day.
The funeral for 8-year-old Christopher, 6-year-old Mary, 4-year-old Fannie, 3-year-old Troy and 18-month-old Gwendolyn took place at Shiloh Temple in Minneapolis.
The fire started just after 5 a.m. Friday, February 14 on Colfax Avenue North.
The children's father, Troy Lewis, was able to save 9-year-old Shaca and 5-year-old Electra, but couldn't get to the other children.
Three of the children were found dead on the scene while two others died at the hospital.
Lewis was surrounded by hundreds of family, friends and city leaders, including Mayor Betsy Hodges, at Saturday's funeral.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but Lewis did say he used space heaters and the oven to heat the home.
Lewis spoke Saturday about his loss and anger over the situation.
