Friends, Family Mourn Wis. Man, 28, Hit By Drunk Driver
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Family and friends are mourning the death of a man killed while walking along a rural Wisconsin highway.
It happened on County Highway C in the town of Star Prairie. Jeffrey Boardman, 28, was walking home with a friend from a New Richmond bar.
Authorities say 22-year old Alyssa Kochsiek had been drinking when she hit Boardman with her Jeep Liberty about 2 a.m. Thursday.
"The two gentlemen that were walking were in dark clothes," Knudson said. "Nothing reflective on them, so it was kind of a recipe for disaster."
Boardman's friend didn't want to talk on camera, but said he and Boardman had been drinking at the bar down the road, and were walking home that night so they wouldn't drink and drive.
Authorities say Kochsiek had also been drinking.
"With her level of intoxication and slowed response time and vision blurred, it may have played a factor," Knudson said.
Boardman died at the scene.
"They performed some life-saving CPR but he had expired," Knudson said.
A cross now marks the place where Myer saw his friend for the last time.
Kochsiek was in custody at the St. Croix County Jail. She was released Friday after posting bail. She will likely face charges.
