Sheriff: Pedestrian Killed In Blaine Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis man is dead after being hit by a car in Blaine.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says it happened at the intersection of University Avenue and 85th Avenue northeast just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, first responders found the man in the southbound lane of University Avenue with severe injuries. Responders tried to save him, but couldn't.

The driver, a 73-year-old man from Coon Rapids, was driving a 1998 Ford Taurus southbound on the University when he struck the pedestrian.

An officer who witnessed the crash says the pedestrian appeared to have failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle.

The 51-year-old killed has not been identified.

The accident is being investigated.
