Franken Campaigns With Fred Armisen; McFadden Stops In Rochester

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Minnesota candidates are entering the final weekend of Campaign 2014.

And with just four days until the election, the incumbent and challenger in the U.S. Senate race are doing everything they can to get out the vote.

Fred Armisen, an actor from Saturday Night Live and Portlandia, met with students at the U of M this morning in support of Sen. Al Franken.

The Democrat spent the day making stops in Willmar and the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Armisen talked with Twin Cities students about the importance of casting a ballot.

"I couldn't wait to do something like this because I think that voting is the most important thing you can do," Armisen said. "It's such a literal version of what democracy is, so no matter what it takes to get the message to you to go out and vote and get your friends and family to vote, I will do it."

Franken's Republican challenger spent the day traveling across southern Minnesota.

Mike McFadden's "get out the vote" tour made stops in cities from Rochester to Austin to Marshall.

The Republican is campaigning as an "independent thinker" focused on education and energy reforms.

A website that averages all the polls gives Franken the advantage in this race right now.

He's leading McFadden 50 percent to 40 percent.
